Writer's Block

So I know that a lot of people have trouble with writer's block.  One of my friends right now is having some trouble with it, so I just want to put out a few things that might help with it.

  • Write somewhere else:  Getting out of your usual environment really can help with your mindset and what is going on in your story.  Something in a different environment might help jog your brain and move the story along.
  • Listen to some music, watch a movie or read a book:  We get ideas from everything around us, and these are great places to find them.  They also help "turn off" your brain.  Sometimes, we think too much about our novel and just need to let our brains relax.
  • Do something crazy:  Do something in your novel that is totally off the wall.  Erin Morgenstein wrote The Night Circus during NaNo, and she had late 19th century characters she hated and her story wasn't going ANYWHERE... so she dropped them into a circus.  I recently murdered someone in my story about friends.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to do something that has absolutely nothing to do with your story.

What else you got?  Give some advice on the best way to get out of your writing funks!

I'm back with more write-in fun!

Just sit down, write some words, and life can begin.  Feel free to post just to say hi, with any questions you might have, or with your word counts.

Writing sprint will begin at 11:30 and go until 11:50, then you can post your word counts!

Digital Write In

All Writing, All the time!!

Having trouble with characters?  Need a name?  Need some google foo?  Want to just vent?

Just post it in the comments.

At 12:30 we'll do a writing sprint until 12:50 :D

GO!

A Little Tour

FYI, I WILL BE DOING A DIGITAL WRITE IN (and possibly sprints) TODAY AT NOON EASTERN STANDARD TIME!!!

So, new blog, new things.

To the left, there will, of course, be the tags for all of my posts, but there is also something I'm putting at the top called, "I Love it".  It is going to be things I love the most at the moment, the things that are really inspiring me to write.  Whether that be books or songs or movies or whatever, I'm just going to put it all up there.

During the month of November, I'm going to have my NaNo Widget at the left side of the blog.  Right now, it's a lonely little widget.  BUT, give me your NaNo screen name, and I'll add yours!! I'm hoping to have a whole list of widgets running down the left side of my screen come the end of November.

Go check out the info page.  There are some ground rules to the blog.  Since it's a space for sharing, it's also gotta be a place of caring, and just like over at RMT, I reserve the right to moderate and delete.  Constructive criticism is fine, welcome!  Being mean for the sake of being mean is not.

If you have suggestions, tell me!!  I know that sprints are a thing, which I'm more than happy to conduct here, digital write-ins, all sorts of things.

I will also be continuing this after NaNo, so have revision questions?  I'm here.  Looking for some character development during a non-nano time?  Totally can help out with that?  Just want to look for some fellow writers, but the NaNo sites are a bit too intense for you?  That's right, we're here for that too.

So happy writing everyone!!

Just Write it

If you're here... well, let's face it, it's probably because you popped over from Review Me Twice and you wanted to participate in NaNo.

And that's great!  I'll be hosting NaNo from here all month, and, be continuing with this blog after NaNo is over.

"So why another blog, Cassy?  Why not just keep up with RMT?"

A big reason is that RMT is for reading, and while Alex and I COMPLETELY encourage writing over there (because, let's face it, if no one wrote, we would never be able to read and review awesome books), we really want to make it more for book discussion that writing discussion.

So that means a blog for all the writing!  This doesn't mean just talking about writing.  This means if you are having a hang up about what to name your character, we're here for you.  This means if you want a place to put a section of your story, we're here for you.  This means if you want to read OUR writing, well, yeah, we're here for that too.

Now, of course, the NaNo forums are always open, and they're great places to go, but Alex and I like to think we've created a pretty safe community over the past three years.  We know a lot of our readers in real life (hi guys) and what's more, we've collected some awesome readers we've never met. :D

So, people might feel more comfortable posting their stuff someplace where they know the people receiving it.  Also, Alex and I run a review blog.  As in, we sit around and review books week in and week out, and we'd like to think that you've come to trust that judgement.  So you might trust our judgement with your writing to.

Either way, we would LOVE to see what you're writing, know how your NaNo is going and anything else that you might need for your writing needs.
