- Write somewhere else: Getting out of your usual environment really can help with your mindset and what is going on in your story. Something in a different environment might help jog your brain and move the story along.
- Listen to some music, watch a movie or read a book: We get ideas from everything around us, and these are great places to find them. They also help "turn off" your brain. Sometimes, we think too much about our novel and just need to let our brains relax.
- Do something crazy: Do something in your novel that is totally off the wall. Erin Morgenstein wrote The Night Circus during NaNo, and she had late 19th century characters she hated and her story wasn't going ANYWHERE... so she dropped them into a circus. I recently murdered someone in my story about friends. Sometimes the best thing to do is to do something that has absolutely nothing to do with your story.
